Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

For the crust:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
6–8 tablespoons ice water

For the filling:

6–7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon butter (for dotting on top)
1 egg + 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Instructions:

Make the Pie Crust:

In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
Cut in butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing just until the dough holds together.
Divide into two discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Prepare the Filling:

In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugars, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and flour. Let sit for 15 minutes.

Assemble the Pie:

Roll out one dough disc and place it into a 9-inch pie pan.
Fill with apple mixture and dot with butter.
Roll out the second dough disc and place it over the filling. Crimp edges to seal. Cut slits for steam to escape.

Bake:

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the top crust with egg wash.
Bake for 50–60 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
Let cool for at least 2 hours before slicing.
